Welcome to the SSAFE in Schools Website.

SSAFE in Schools, a project of Family Planning Victoria and the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at LaTrobe University, aims to support school communities in challenging homophobia and creating safe learning environments for same-sex attracted and gender non-conforming students. This website is for anyone in the school community looking for resources, strategies and activities to support curriculum development, teacher training, provision of information to parents and the broader community and support for individual students.
The SSAFE in Schools Project was funded in 2001 by VicHealth, with further funding in 2002 from the Premier’s Drug Prevention Council. The Project is supported by a reference group that includes representatives from:
- Department of Education and Training
- Catholic Education Office
- Department of Human Services
- Youth Affairs Council of Victoria
- Parents Victoria
- VicHealth
- The Bouverie Centre
- Family Planning Victoria
- Good Shepherd Youth and Family Service
- Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society
This website will continue to grow, so check back from time to time for new resources and strategies. We can’t promise to provide details on every great resource or program that’s out there, and omission of any particular resource or program from this list is not meant to suggest anything about the merit of that resource or program.
The SSAFE in Schools Project sends out electronic newsletters to interested schools and agencies several times a year. If you’re interested in receiving our newsletters, click on the 'Membership' icon on the left hand side of this page.
Click on the menu items to the left of screen for resources, research strategies and programs for supporting same-sex attracted youth and challenging homophobia in your school community. |
